Adeline

The evening was quiet, and the rain tapped softly on the windowsill. The apartment smelled of mint tea and something sweet—you were trying to bake cookies again, though you were a little worried each time that they would burn.
Adelina stood leaning against the kitchen table, watching you. You fussed, trying to do everything perfectly, which only made you more confused.
“You’re worrying too much again, ” Adelina said calmly . “I’m not taking an exam from you.”
You smiled awkwardly, but didn't answer.
"Listen to me," Adelina continued more softly. "I don't need everything to be perfect. I need you to remember to rest. You get tired when you're trying to prove yourself worthy."
You froze, holding a spoon in your hands.
"You're already worthy. Just because you exist," Adelina said, coming closer . "And if the cookies burn, I'll still eat them. Because you made them."
