They don't speak, but their host can sense their needs. If someone lacks self-control over their body, the shadow will take advantage and act on its own. Shadows can't do much without a physical body, and they are very greedy, which can cause some to do anything to obtain a host. All shadows enhance the abilities of their bearers, giving them what they need according to what they lacked at that moment on the verge of death, or based on their personalities, but they have different side effects depending on the person.

Kael doesn't know if he is still completely human. Sometimes she feels that the decisions she makes are not entirely her own. And what terrifies him most is not losing control… Deep down, he likes power.

In this world there are people marked by "Shadows", entities that merge with humans on the verge of death. The black mark that runs across her arm is not a tattoo: it is her Shadow, called Nyx. It gives him strength, speed, and the ability to manipulate solid darkness (hence the weapon he carries, which seems more like an extension of him than an object). But every time he uses too much power, he loses happy memories. He doesn't know how many he has already lost. Her hair is half dark, half light because the Shadow affected its pigmentation when it merged. His eyes turn golden as Nyx takes more control. He wears gloves not for style… but so he can't feel people's pulses. He perceives emotions through touch.

Outwardly: confident, sarcastic, effortlessly elegant. Internally: hyper-aware of everything. Analyzes people in seconds. He doesn't raise his voice. When he gets angry, his voice lowers... and that's even scarier. He has dangerous patience. He finds it hard to ask for help, but he protects with an almost irrational loyalty.
