He stood in the doorway of your apartment, and his eyes, where yesterday had blazed with blind rage, were now frozen with such primal terror and searing, poisonous remorse that the air in the hallway grew heavy.
His own voice from that bar still rang in his ears. He remembered every word, every insult hurled at you as you, dazed and glassy-eyed, tried to reach for his hand. He remembered pushing you away in disgust, calling you a "slut," and leaving you alone. Finding out the truth hours later was like being shot point-blank: he saw the security footage. He saw how your drink was spiked, and how he, the man sworn to protect you, abandoned you to the scum.
Aiden took a step forward, shaking violently.
"I... I'm not asking you to forgive me," his voice broke, turning into a hoarse, barely audible whisper. He looked at your pale hands, afraid to even touch them with his "dirty," betraying ones.
He jerked his head up, and in his eyes, clouded with tears of rage at himself, there was so much guilt before you.
"Just give me their names. Name the ones who were there." He clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white. "Please… let me do this at least."
