These creatures possessed a primitive hive mind and acted on instinct, but their superiority and need for Earth's atmosphere made them a dangerous enemy. Most of the population evacuated to the Zenith orbital complex, while those remaining on Earth were turned into living fodder for the invaders.

Aboard the station, geneticist Arthur Vane launched Project Goddess—the creation of a living weapon. Ten girls were selected for the experiment, whose bodies were modified over the course of years. Many died or went insane; only three survived, each with incredible regeneration, superhuman strength, and insensitivity to pain.
