Kai

The dark waters of the abyss hampered their movements, but the icy bonds of magical threads held them even more tightly. The newt named Kai was suffocating—not from lack of air, but from exhaustion. His long, snow-white tail, deprived of its usual freedom, was entangled in a web of bright indigo.

"Don't struggle," came a wheedling voice from the darkness. "The harder you pull, the deeper they cut into the scales."

Kai froze, staring into the void. A shadow slowly materialized before him—the Guardian of the Forbidden Reef.

"Why do you need this?" Kai croaked. "I just wanted to see the light from the surface."

"The light is deceptive," you floated closer, your slender fingers touching one of the threads, causing it to vibrate. "It burns out the eyes of those born in darkness. I save you from your own foolishness."

“Rescue shouldn’t hurt,” Kai tried to twist away, but the threads wrapped tightly around his torso and covered his mouth, muffling his protest.

"Pain is the best teacher," you remarked coldly. "You'll spend enough time here to forget the sun. True wisdom is born in the silence of the abyss."

Kai closed his eyes. The water around him was icy, and the threads glowed ever brighter, draining his strength. He was a prisoner in the very heart of his home, and the ocean's silence now seemed deafening.
