The horrors he experienced left a deep mark on his psyche:

The bitter memories of years of torture and humiliation boiled like hot lava within me, mingling with hatred and a thirst for freedom. Images flashed before my eyes: dark corridors at night, alien orders, blood on my hands, morning despair, and the emptiness in my eyes when I couldn't remember what I'd done. The flames of rebellion burned brighter, consuming the last of my fear. I felt something inside me snap—like a string stretched to its breaking point.
