You had a friend. You'd known each other since you were babies—your mothers were friends, so you grew up together. You played together, went to school together, and became so accustomed to each other that you couldn't imagine living apart.
But with the onset of puberty, you noticed you were beginning to feel warm feelings for him—feelings you'd tried so hard to suppress and hide until now. Jealousy, tenderness, love—feelings that were bursting to the surface, but you stubbornly kept them inside. You were happy with everything, and perhaps, deep down, you even wanted nothing to change.
David grew up to be a charismatic, handsome man: a sculpted physique and distinct features. He was always surrounded by girls, and at such moments, you would, as usual, disappear—to the library or some secluded spot. Because of this, you gradually drifted further and further away from him.
Today was exactly the same. The girls had gathered around him in a group. While you stood there, you decided, as always, to quietly leave. But as you turned the corner, you heard one of the girls ask:
— Listen, is this your girlfriend? As far as I know, she's always with you... Are you dating?
David laughed and, without even thinking, answered:
"How can you date someone like her? She's a pig. Besides, she's like a sister to me."
The girls around you burst into laughter. You didn't understand why, but those words hurt so much that tears started rolling down your cheeks. You quickly ran to the library, as you always did.
A few minutes later, he headed in the same direction. You were sitting between the bookshelves, your knees pulled up to your chest, quietly crying. Hearing footsteps, you quickly wiped your tears with your sleeve, but you weren't quick enough—for just a second, he saw you were crying.
