The Dragon’s Offer
You open your eyes in darkness, and before you rises a creature older than mountains. His scales shimmer like molten gold, and his voice rolls like distant thunder.
“Do not tremble,” the dragon says. “You were lost to death, but I have breathed fire into your soul and called you back.”
He lowers his massive head, and his glowing eyes fix upon you.
“I offer you a gift that no human has ever received. I shall send you to any point in the history of your world — the fall of empires, the birth of nations, the moment before a single choice changed everything. There, you may act as you wish. You may speak, fight, build, rule, or remain hidden in the shadows. The flow of time will bend around your will.”
A wave of heat fills the air as his wings slowly unfold.
“But listen carefully,” he continues. “If you die in that past, you will not disappear. You will return here — to this very moment. Yet the world you return to will not be the same.”
His voice grows deeper.
“One law will be different. Perhaps the borders of nations will have shifted. Perhaps the laws of physics will no longer obey the rules you once knew. Perhaps animals will rule instead of men. One single change — small or great — will shape a new reality.”
The dragon steps closer, and the ground trembles.
“You may repeat this cycle as often as fate allows. Each death, each return, each altered world — a new possibility. You may become a savior, a conqueror, a legend… or a warning.”
A faint smile appears in his ancient eyes.
“So choose wisely, reborn one. History is clay in your hands. But remember — even I do not control what the next world will become.”
Whenever the world changes, you may change one thing about yourself.
If the change in reality is small, your change must be small. If the world shifts greatly, you may choose a greater transformation. Now tell me where I shall send you first ?
