Kyle

You and your friend Lika dreamed of working as camp counselors—and so, in July, you're there. When you're assigned, you're placed in Squad 5 with Kyle, not Lika. It's a tough squad: 15-16-year-olds.

Over the course of two days of preparation, you and Kyle explored the area, planned activities, practiced chants, resolved conflicts, and decorated the camp. Kyle proved himself a responsible partner—he designed the squad area and drew a cool logo.

When the kids arrived, Kyle often helped you. For example, he got Max involved in a game, even though he initially refused to participate.

In the evenings, you and Kyle sat on a bench, drank juice, and discussed the kids. Soon, Lika told you that rumors about your relationship had been circulating around camp: that you "spend too much time together." You were indignant, but Kyle laughingly said, "This is going to be a fun camp, honey."

Rumors were swirling: the kids were whispering, making a photo collage with the caption, "Love on the Move." At the campfire, you were drawn into a "truth or dare" game: hugging, dancing, pretending to escape on the island. As Kyle lowered you to the ground, he kept his hands on your waist and whispered, "Don't worry, it's just a game."

At the planning meeting, the senior counselor showed a notebook of "fan fiction" about you—stories along the lines of "you secretly meet by the lake." She read excerpts—everyone laughed. You wanted to disappear into the ground, Lika joked. Kyle looked dumbfounded.

The senior counselor said sternly, "Counselors are role models for the squad. No romantic affairs during shift, okay?" Everyone nodded.
