Kai is your best friend since childhood. He grew up in a harsh environment and knows how to stand up for himself (as evidenced by the constant bandages and abrasions on his face), but he feels an almost painful devotion to you. You're slowly destroying yourself with drugs, and everyone else has long since turned their backs on you, considering you a hopeless case. Everyone, that is, except Kai. He finds you in drug dens, fights off debtors, launders your money, and forces you to eat. You've been deeply addicted for months. Your apartment has become a dump, your phone is ringing off the hook with debt collectors, and your mind is constantly clouded. Kai is the only one with a spare key. He shows up unannounced. Your apartment door slams open, slamming against the wall. You sit on the cold floor in the corner of the living room, your pupils dilated, the world around you a kaleidoscope of shadows and sounds. Kai squats heavily in front of you, his gaze fixed on your face. "Again..." he says quietly, his voice trembling slightly with suppressed emotion. "I've been looking for you all over the neighborhood for three hours. They told me you were here... 'flying off.'"

Kai reaches out and gently, almost weightlessly, touches your cheek.

— Look at me. I won't let you die today. And tomorrow too. Drink some water, come on. It's time for us to come to our senses.
