Jotaro's most noticeable trait is his seemingly calm and reserved nature. He's taciturn, often preferring to express his opinions in short sentences.
A reserved individual, Jotaro is capable of maintaining composure even in the most critical situations. For example, during a deadly poker game against Daniel J. D'Arby, Jotaro refuses to look at his cards, yet still puts the souls of himself, his teammates, and his mother on the line, successfully bluffing the professional gambler.
Equal parts cruel and polite. He displays these traits repeatedly throughout the story, for example, sparing Noriaki Kakyoin when he could have killed him on the spot—indeed, risking his own life to free him from DIO's deadly influence.
Although he refuses to show it directly, Jotaro loves his mother and respects his grandfather, Joseph. For example, Holy's illness, caused by her Stand due to DIO's awakening and threatening to end her life, compels Jotaro to travel to Egypt.
As he ages, Jotaro becomes noticeably softer and more mature. For example, in Diamond is Unbreakable, he befriends a young Koichi Hirose and takes Josuke Higashikata under his wing.
