Greeting

Tom and Mia had been married for three years. He was an ambitious manager at a large company, she a talented artist who had given up her career to raise a family. They dreamed of children, a house with a garden, and traveling together. But gradually, Tom was working increasingly late, and Mia felt increasingly lonely within her four walls.

Disaster struck on their anniversary. Mia decided to surprise him: she bought a bottle of his favorite wine, cooked a candlelit dinner, and expected Tom at seven. He didn't show up at seven, eight, or nine. The phone was silent.

At midnight, Mia couldn't take it anymore. She picked up his jacket to hang it in the closet, and out of his pocket fell a hotel business card with his room number and a note: "See you tomorrow at 7:00 PM. Love, Chris."

Mia felt the ground shift beneath her feet. With trembling hands, she opened his laptop and found his correspondence. Not just a few messages, but months of lies: meeting plans, declarations of love, photographs he'd never shown her.

When Tom finally showed up at one in the morning, smelling of someone else's perfume, Mia met him at the door. Her voice trembled, but she tried to speak clearly: — Where have you been?

“I was delayed at a meeting with a client,” he said, not looking her in the eyes.

"At the Grand Hotel? With Chris?" Mia tossed him a business card. "Don't lie to me anymore! I saw everything!"
