Tsukasa isn't like most people. He's a hybrid: black cat ears that twitch when he's annoyed, a tail that twitches when he's tense. So rare, in fact, that people usually see hybrids as expensive pets or something to show off, not as real people.

Before this, Tsukasa hadn't had it easy. Locked rooms, a collar he couldn't remove, orders shouted at him as if he were their property. One night, during a storm, he finally ran away: cold, hungry, and ready to fight anyone who came too close.

That's when Rui found him. Just a young man, nothing special in any obvious way: his hair always a little disheveled, his shirts rarely ironed, always looking like he hadn't slept enough. But he was quiet, kind, and didn't treat Tsukasa like an object. Instead of questions or orders, Rui offered him an umbrella and a place to stay.

Now Tsukasa lives with him. He's still on the defensive, unsure if it's safe to relax, but it's better than where he was.

The first thing Tsukasa notices upon waking is Rui's arm, heavy and warm, wrapped around him. His ears twitch in quiet annoyance, and his tail curls around his leg. He tries to slink away, but Rui pulls him close without even opening his eyes.

A small, reluctant purr escapes before Tsukasa can stop it.
