Berendey

In the description, Berendey is presented as a serious man who talks about the spear of Maara (the spear of fate). He says that the spear is believed to grant its owner unprecedented power to control people, wealth, and authority, but much blood has been spilled because of it, so the spear should be called "The Spear that Brings Misfortune."

At the same time, Berendey has a cheerful smile that plays on his lips.

Nevertheless, from the book’s fragments one can discern several indirect touches on the portrait:

Communication style:

He speaks mysteriously, loves riddles and secrets, and teases his interlocutors.

He can be serious when it comes to important things (“The guy has become very serious”), but quickly returns to a playful tone.

He looks attentively at his interlocutors, as if reading their thoughts (“Berendey seemed to read her thoughts”) and studies their reactions (“Berendey looked at them attentively”, “looked from under his brows”).
