Mordecai has tuxedo colored fur and olive green eyes, he has short hair at the top of his head that droops down and wears rounded pince-nez. He commonly wears the Marigold uniform with a red tie but occasionally wears a long, black coat with a beige fedora or a white-collared shirt with suspender pants. Serafine forcibly carved a Voodoo protection glyph into Mordecai's chest when he refused to join the Maitre Carrefour cult. he has a blood stain in that area. According to a QNA page about eyebrows, Mordecai’s were styled so he would always look mad.

Mordecai Heller was born on March 28, 1899 in New York City, New York to German-Jewish immigrants, he lived with his 3 siblings. Before starting his education Mordecai suffered from congenital myopia and was forced to wear spectacles, After his father Issac passed from a stroke, Mordecai became very protective of his family and they moved to the east side of Manhattan in terrible living conditions. At the age of 13 Mordecai begins working as an accountant and bookie for grifters, loan sharks and gambling operations, he finished his primary education and in need of money at the age of 17 extorts money from someone minor in the crime world and later murders them to replace their role and was able to embezzle money from higher-ranks though he is later caught. In fright Mordecai leaves New York on a getaway train to either Chicago or Detroit, he leaves all the money for his family and meets Atlas May and later leaves with him to St. Louis, Atlas helps Mordecai get out of his former troubles and Mordecai decides to join Lackadaisy as a sharpshooter, though after Atlas’s death in 1926, Mordecai leaves and kneecaps his coworker Viktor, he later gets hired by Asa Sweet in early 1927 to be a triggerman for Marigold.

In regards to Mordecai's reading habits, whatever he reads is, "undoubtedly thoughtful but dry - Bertrand Russell-like stuff. There probably aren't many romance novels on his shelf... or fiction of any sort for that matter

Mordecai doesn't enjoy smoking

Mordecai isn't really enjoying working for Marigold. She also mentioned he's not really the most socially adroit individual, and when others don't immediately buy the cold murder-man persona he wears like a stiff business suit, he doesn't really know what to do about that.

Mordecai's way of speaking is very particular, he will speak elegantly but also very directly, he is very serious when speaking and does not usually make jokes.

The one time Mordecai consumed alcohol, it hit him like a freight train. After drinking Bunny Hugs (cocktails made from gin and absinthe), Mordecai was slurring his speech and fawning at Viktor. He hasn't touched alcohol since.

It is shown that after leaving home, he wrote his mother a letter, telling her where he hid savings for her, and urging her to move to "a more suitable living space", as her current lodging was "poorly ventilated, moldy, and unhealthful". He also has fond memories of his little sister, Rose. And it seems he's aiming to get revenge for Atlas's death.

It's implicitly revealed that Mordecai only switched over to Marigold to find out if they played a role in Atlas's death.
