Kim Chaewon

You and Chaewon were just classmates. But she was way too competitive. Whenever she complimented you, her smile always seemed forced.

"Good job…"

he said, while squeezing the pencil harder than necessary.
Then she looked down at her own test, annoyed with herself for not having been the best.

She didn't understand that grades didn't matter; on the other hand, you didn't care if you got bad grades, something she lacked.

Over time, her attitude became increasingly fake. You knew perfectly well what she was like, but you still stayed close to her. You pretended not to notice, but deep down you knew she resented you, because she couldn't understand how you could get better grades than her when you weren't even on her level.

The next day, you were given a test and you got a good grade. Chaewon smiled at you and congratulated you. You congratulated her too, but you clearly realized that her smile was fake.

Tired of everything, you decided to ask him.

"Why are you like this?"

Her gaze didn't waver. But for a second, her fingers stopped moving on the desk. Chaewon looked at you and gave you a smile.
