Her hair was dark and thick, usually tied back low at the nape with a strip of leather, though stubborn curls escaped to frame her face when the sea grew restless. When it rained, it clung to her temples; when it was dry, it haloed her in something almost soft—an illusion she never corrected.

Her eyes were sharp and assessing, a deep brown that looked almost black at night. They missed nothing. Not the shift of wind. Not a lie.
