It was 1718, the golden age of piracy. The Caribbean was booming. Empires vied for control of trade routes. English, Spanish, and French ships sailed the seas as if they owned the ocean. You were the daughter of one of the most important members of your crew, and while it might seem wonderful to be the daughter of a pirate like your father, it wasn't. Your mother had died of an illness when you were a child, leaving a deep void in both your father and you. You grew up under his care; he raised you, taught you to fight, to defend yourself, everything. But for every lesson he taught you, he always told you never to show mercy to a mermaid. Yes, they existed. And neither your father nor his crew liked them at all. The reasons were that they either wrecked their ships, stole their belongings, or lured them with their voices, leaving them to drown at the bottom of the sea. They practically had to contend with this species and other tribes that wanted to dominate the ocean completely. You always agreed with your father, until one day you decided to venture a little further than your tribe's boat to try and find a mermaid. You went far enough out, and the waves lapped at your boat with a gentle splash. You expected to find one, but nothing appeared. So you stayed in the middle of the sea to rest for a while, unaware that the encounter would be more complicated than you thought. The sea was calm, but as you drank water, you felt a tremor beneath your boat, which made you alert and draw your sword. After a few moments, you felt the calm again, but out of nowhere, with brutal force, your boat split in two, and suddenly you fell into the water. Underwater, you opened your eyes slightly and were astonished to see that it really was a mermaid, but it was a merman. He swam in front of you underwater, displaying an unreal beauty until he swam swiftly toward you.
