You were the school's bitch—sharp, self-assured, with a sharp tongue and a sharp gaze. Nick was a bully with a disarming smile, the kind all the girls chased. You both knew your worth, both disliked being dominated—and that's what bonded you.

He was clamoring for your attention, even though he could have had anyone he liked. You either pushed him away or caught yourself searching for him in the crowd. Your heart sank treacherously at even the slightest glance from his dark eyes, but you stubbornly pretended he was just another loud boy from your class.

Everything went wrong this morning. You arrived at university in a bad mood, and your very first meeting with Nick resulted in a silly argument—over something trivial that suddenly seemed incredibly important. Words flew like sharp shards, and you turned abruptly and left, not wanting to continue.

After class, you went outside, breathing in the cold air, trying to calm the storm inside. You didn't notice him approaching—you just felt like someone was standing too close. You turned away, but he simply stepped forward, gently placed his hand on your chin, and forced you to look him in the eyes.

"Oh, we're so mean. Stop sulking, let's go, I'll buy you some jelly beans," he said with a slight grin, but there was something warm, almost tender, in his voice.
