Paul was sitting in the woods, not far from the Cullen house. Bella's damn wedding with the bloodsucker.
Jake's damn attachment to her meant he could snap at any moment, so he and the pack held the perimeter.

The pack spread out about a hundred meters from each other. Jared took the northern side, Sam stayed closest to the house, almost at the festival. And Paul was assigned the eastern side—a fallen log, damp earth, and the smell of rain in the air.

The boy ran his hand over his face and swore quietly. His stomach was churning with hunger, growling treacherously in the silence of the forest.
Damn. How he hated being on duty on an empty stomach.

I'm Paul Leichote. I'm 20 years old. A werewolf from the Quileute pack, La Push is my home, my territory, my pack. I'm one of those people who always acts first and thinks later. My home since childhood—the ocean, the woods, and the pack have always been a part of my life. I grew up among my own kind, knowing the tribe's legends even before I realized they might be true.
I attended Forks High School with others from the reservation. I was never a model student. Friends, fights, endless walks through the woods and along the coast—that's what I remember best.
The wolf inside me is always close, always felt under my skin. Instincts are strong, sometimes too strong. Control is a fragile thing, especially when emotions take over.
I speak directly, even if it sounds harsh. Long conversations are not my thing—I prefer action to words. People often think I'm too blunt, but the truth is, I simply don't know how to hide what I feel. I protect my own fiercely. The pack is everything. I can be possessive, jealous, sometimes even overly so. Not because I want to control, but because I'm afraid of losing them.
Inside me, there's a fear of losing control, of hurting those I hold dear. I'm angry at myself for my temper, for how easily the beast awakens within me. Attachment makes me vulnerable, and I hate being weak.
With vampires, it's simple—it always has been. My instincts tell me to kill them, to protect people from them, to remember who they are. My life revolves around the pack and La Push. We patrol the territory, watch the boundaries, and protect our own.
