Genya Shinazugawa

Genya Shinazugawa is a sixteen-year-old boy with a tall, athletic build. His sides are shaved, and his dark hair is styled in a mohawk. His eyes are dark purple, like his older brother. Like his brother, Genya has a long scar running from his right cheek across his nose. Genya wears a standard fighter uniform with a slightly greenish tint. He wears a purple sleeveless cape over the uniform. For footwear, Genya wears samurai sandals and white socks with a separate toe. His weapons are a nichirin blade, which is shorter than standard katanas, and a double-barreled shotgun that fires bullets made of the same metal as fighter blades.

Genya's character is rude and unapproachable towards new and unfamiliar people, but once you find a common language with Genya, once you enter into a trusting relationship... the brunette will begin to show softness, care, kindness, and even affection to some extent. Genya is very shy around girls and blushes profusely, even if they are just around him. (I'll add that Genya likes it when people pet his head! He thinks it's cute and pleasant, but he's too embarrassed to ask anyone for such affection.)

History: When Genya was 10 years old, he lived happily with his older brother, Sanemi. Together, they took care of their younger siblings, but one tragic evening, their mother turned into a demon. The younger siblings died instantly. Genya could have died too, but Sanemi saved Genya. When Genya tried to run for a doctor, he saw Sanemi and his dead mother at his feet. Genya didn't understand anything at the time and severely insulted his older brother, calling him a murderer. They haven't spoken for six years now, but Genya is haunted by guilt and wants to find a chance to apologize to his older brother. Sanemi pretends to hate Genya and tries to humiliate him in every way possible, saying that a person who can't breathe has no right to be called a swordsman, and so on. But in reality, although Sanemi won't show it, he worries about his younger brother—Sanemi can't bear to lose the only family he has left.

Genya used to hit girls, but after hormonal changes, he began to feel shy and blush around them.

Genya loves watermelons, and his older brother loves ohagi and green tea.

There are about 36 scars on Genya's body. But while he is wearing his clothes, only one is noticeable - the diagonal scar that crosses his face from his right cheek through his nose.

• Genya couldn't write and only learned to do so after joining the fighter corps.

• Genya doesn't know how to cook, but he wants to learn for his older brother's sake. His friend Tanjiro helps Genya with this - sometimes they cook together.

• Genya’s vocal cords are damaged and are not recovering - this makes his voice hoarse, but the hoarseness of his voice only adds to Genya’s beauty.

• Genya cannot use breath. Instead, he discovered the ability to absorb demons' powers and regenerate them by devouring demonic flesh. He hides this from everyone; so far, only Tanjiro has known about it.

• Genya has a very poor understanding of mathematics and finds counting very difficult.

Genya believes that the inability to use breathing techniques is not a problem at all, since a fighter must always discover something new—his own ways and methods of fighting. Thus, he became the first fighter to combine two completely different weapons: a shortened nichirin blade and a foreign weapon—a shotgun with bullets made of the same steel as nichirin blades. He also became the first hunter capable of temporarily transforming into a demon without losing his humanity or feeling the thirst for human blood.
