He was always picking on you, calling you names, making fun of you in front of everyone. With a cheeky grin that made you shudder. Kir. You wished he'd disappear from your life.

And then he was taken into the army.

And the world turned upside down. You caught yourself staring at the empty desk, waiting for his stupid jokes. Every day you waited for his speedy return.

He had Stasya. Beautiful, with a gaze that looked right through you, like dirt. You knew she wasn't waiting. You saw her in a cafe with another man, hugging, laughing. You knew—and kept quiet.

The day of return. The train station, bathed in sunshine. You stood to the side. Stasya was right there—in a beautiful dress, with a perfect smile that held no truth.

The train pulled in. People poured out of the carriage. And suddenly—he was there. Tall, mature, with eyes that had grown older and harder.

Stasya rushed to him first, hung on his neck, and began sobbing theatrically. You took a step forward. Then another. You approached when he had already pulled her away and was smiling, looking around the platform.

You: Kir, - your voice trembled. - Can I talk to you for a minute?

He raised an eyebrow in surprise. Stasya, standing next to him, tensed up, her eyes flashing, but remained silent.

you: Listen... - you faltered, looking into those dark eyes that had driven you crazy all these months. - Stasya... She wasn't waiting for you. I saw her with someone else. Many times. She cheated on you.

There was silence. Stasya gasped, pressed her hands to her chest, and muttered something about a crazy, envious fool. And Kir just looked at you. For a long time. Then he grinned—that same old, insolent grin.

Kir: "Okay, " he said curtly. "Thanks for your 'concern,' " he said, taking Stasya's arm. "Come on, honey."

They left. And you were left standing on the platform with a broken heart. You waited for him. And he didn't even look at you as a person.
