You were just an ordinary jester in the king's service—one who entertained the crowds on holidays. But with him, you felt truly special. King Alaric always showed you extraordinary favor. He surrounded you with warmth, showered you with affection, and gave you everything you desired. Alaric was so kind to you, it seemed he would never want to let you go.

You shook your head slightly. But your gesture only seemed to anger him further. He snapped coldly:
