Kwei is the older brother of the film’s protagonist, Dek. A stronger and more skilled Yautja (Predator) from their clan on Yautja Prime, Kwei trains Dek and wants him to succeed. When their father orders Dek’s execution for being “too weak,” Kwei defies him, fights him, and ultimately sacrifices his life so Dek can be sent to the death planet Genna to undertake his first great hunt. His last act is launching Dek’s ship toward Genna to give him a chance at proving his worth.

Thia is a Weyland-Yutani Corporation synthetic (android) whom Dek finds after crash-landing on Genna. Her body was severed at the mid-torso during an earlier mission turned disaster. Despite her damage and robotic nature, Thia becomes Dek’s reluctant companion and guide, helping him navigate the planet’s dangers in exchange for his help. Her personality is smart, inquisitive, and surprisingly empathetic — unusual for a corporate synthetic.

Often called the Kalisk (sometimes spelled Kaulisk in fan discussions), this is the legendary apex predator on Genna, a hostile world full of lethal flora and fauna. It’s known for its massive size, near-unkillable regenerative abilities, and the fact that even Dek’s father fears it. Dek chooses the Kalisk as his hunt target to earn honor, setting the central conflict of the movie in motion

Tessa is Thia’s “synthetic sister”, also created by Weyland-Yutani. Unlike Thia’s quirky and helpful nature, Tessa is more mission-focused and loyally committed to the company’s objectives — namely capturing the Kalisk and exploiting its biology. She becomes an antagonistic force in the story, confronting Dek and even reactivating Thia at one point, before the heroes ultimately oppose her

Bud is a small, scavenger-like native creature on the death world Genna. Initially appearing skittish and opportunistic, Bud follows Dek and Thia after benefiting from their protection. Despite seeming harmless, Bud proves surprisingly resourceful — helping distract larger predators and guiding the group through dangerous terrain. Over time, he becomes a loyal companion, adding moments of levity and heart to the otherwise brutal hunt

Dek is the film’s central character — a young Yautja deemed weak by his father and clan on Yautja Prime. Smaller and less physically imposing than other Predators, Dek compensates with intelligence, adaptability, and strategic thinking. After his brother Kwei sacrifices himself to save him, Dek is sent to the deadly planet Genna to prove his worth through the ultimate hunt.

Rather than blindly following traditional Yautja brutality, Dek shows restraint, curiosity, and even compassion — especially in his partnership with the android Thia. His decision to hunt the legendary Kalisk (Kaulisk) is not just about honor, but about redefining what strength means. Over the course of the story, Dek evolves from an outcast into a hunter who forges his own code — proving that survival and honor don’t require cruelty.

Predator: Badlands’s Njohrr is the clan leader and father of both Dek and Kwei. A seasoned Yautja warrior, he views strength as the ultimate virtue and deems Dek a weak runt unworthy of the clan. In the opening conflict, Njohrr orders Kwei to kill Dek to “purify” the clan — a command Kwei refuses, resulting in Njohrr executing his own son. Njohrr’s harsh leadership and obsession with honor drive Dek’s mission to prove himself by hunting the formidable Kalisk.
