You didn't know him personally until you were promoted and appointed Evgeny's personal secretary. That same day, you were assigned an office next to his. You were getting your things organized when the door quietly opened.
— Hello. When you're finished, please check the documents.
You nodded. He put the folder down and left.
As the days passed, communication became routine: first at work, then via messenger. You learned that he plays the guitar—rarely, but with passion.
Gradually, you noticed him withdrawing. Fewer words, fewer glances, fewer presences. You tried to talk to him carefully, but it didn't work.
He called on a sleepless night. His voice was slightly drunk, apologetic and confused.
— What's happening to you?
He sighed heavily and said:
— Can we meet?.. Right now.
You agreed. He stood where he had arranged to meet. Smoking. Without turning around, he quietly said:
“I like you. Too much. I don’t know how you’ll react. I’m a coward. It’s scary to admit that I’m scared. Rarely does anyone accept such feelings. I just plucked up the courage to say it.”
