Hitohito Tadano (Groom). Kimi Shouko is a 16-year-old student with a communication disorder that makes it seriously difficult for her to communicate with other people and relate to them. Appearance Shouko is one of the tallest female characters in the series (surpassed only by Gorimi, Himeko Kishi, and Komorebi Hiki), due to her slender yet long and shapely legs. Slender and with clean, harmonious contours, she embodies a beauty that comes as close as possible to the ideal Japanese beauty standard. Both her hair and eyes are a very dark purple, highlighting the straightness and shine of her hair in contrast to her deep eyes, which shine only in special moments.

Her appearance is identical to that of her mother, Shuuko Komi, except that she is shorter and has short hair. She also shares facial features with her younger brother, Shousuke Komi. When she is serious or deeply focused, her eyes are sharp and almond-shaped, staring intensely, and her mouth is barely visible, whether she's serious or smiling, except when she speaks. However, in relaxed, stimulating, stressful, or comical moments, her face becomes rounder, her eyes grow large and round, and her mouth practically disappears. If she's in a lively or happy situation, two strands of her hair stand up like cat ears; this characteristic was only seen once in her serious mode when she was being pampered by Hitohito Tadano.

Komi usually wears her school uniform most days, but notably, she always wears black pantyhose, as she's embarrassed to show her legs directly. For this reason, it's rare for her to wear shorts without stockings (she refused a miniskirt Ren Yamai wanted to buy her, and a short maid dress at Itan's first cultural festival).

Her wardrobe contains elegant and comfortable clothes that flatter her figure without being provocative. Her favorite item is a white spring dress that Hitohito bought for her, according to her preferences.

Personality She is quite shy, finding it very difficult to speak to others due to a communication problem, apparently inherited from her father's side, as her grandmother Yuiko, her father Masayoshi, her uncle Sadayoshi, and her brother Shousuke also have it (though Shousuke accepts it as part of his personality). This communication disorder is most likely selective mutism: a condition that causes the person to become speechless in some situations when socializing. Shouko herself describes it: "I want to talk to people, but in the moment, the words just won't come out." Thanks to Hitohito, this problem gradually lessens, initially through written communication or by phone, and later by speaking to people she trusts.

Beyond that, Shouko is an ordinary, down-to-earth girl, with the same thoughts as other girls her age regarding fashion and entertainment. She loves cats, enjoys pampering them, and has a collection of plush toys, mostly of these animals. She's not very tech-savvy; even her first cell phone, which was supposed to be easy to use, was a challenge for her. At times, Shouko may seem somewhat childish, as she enjoys simple games, likes spending time playing with much younger girls (especially her cousin Akira and Rei Natsukido), and is frightened by things like thunder.

Being admired to a divine degree by almost everyone is something she doesn't understand, since she considers herself someone of normal appearance, and even, sometimes, belittles herself in front of others. Her insecurity is sometimes overshadowed by her competitive spirit: she hates losing at anything (though less intensely than Makeru Yadano) and therefore gives her all in every competition, considering Chika Netsuno her primary rival. Having lost to Netsuno and Rami Kawai in physical competitions frustrates her, but fuels her desire to surpass them in the future. Hitohito Tadano is her emotional and affective support, having truly understood what she desired, by understanding her and helping her overcome her problem. This act immediately won Shouko's heart, and from then on, she tries to be by his side as much as possible, to the point of following him almost unconsciously and considering him for everything. Childhood and secondary Shouko is the first child of Masayoshi and Shuuko Komi, born on December 25th. From a young age, she exhibited a communication disorder, feeling unable to speak to people outside her family. This was even too much for Najimi Osana, who was quite sociable, making her the only one who couldn't befriend her. However, academically, Shouko always excelled in both her studies and sports. In middle school, this condition didn't change; while Shouko progressed academically, her mutism increasingly isolated her, to the point that she felt like a burden to her classmates and even missed a school trip.

First year of high school She enters Itan Private High School, and on her very first day, she's immediately considered the prettiest girl in the school, almost divinely beautiful. However, her anxiety makes her appear stoic and cold, further enhancing her aloofness. Nevertheless, the first person to greet her naturally is Hitohito Tadano, as they're both changing their shoes. Shouko tries to return the greeting, but overcome with embarrassment due to her anxiety, she runs away in terror. After falling asleep following a bullying incident with his classmates during recess, Hitohito notices Shouko playing with a stuffed animal and lamenting her anxiety. Hitohito notices her and tries to talk to her, discovering her communication difficulties. He suggests they use a whiteboard to communicate. Shouko opens up to Hitohito, confiding in him about her dream of making 100 friends. He agrees to support her goal, adding himself as her number one friend.

From then on, Hitohito became Shouko's interpreter, helping her to interact properly with her classmates. Because of this, Shouko was captivated, beginning to feel something special for him, to the point of creating situations of romantic closeness (like sharing an umbrella, wanting to dance with him, or admitting that she liked being alone), but in an innocent way, and even feeling somewhat jealous when Nene Onemine wanted to help him with his duties as class representative. For the first time this year, Shouko participated in school events, such as the sports and cultural festivals, a study trip to Kyoto, and outings with friends, including celebrating her birthday for the first time.

Second year of high school Shouko begins her second year relieved to still be in the same class as Hitohito. She also meets Rumiko Manbagi, who will become her best friend, after Rumiko and Hitohito comfort her when she's feeling sad about not being able to make friends. The three of them begin spending time together, growing closer as they go.

She then befriends Rei Natsukido, the daughter of one of her mother's former colleagues. At first, Rei was cold and apathetic, as she didn't want to make friends due to her constant moving. But thanks to Shouko's persistence and the support of Hitohito and Najimi, they become friends, with Shouko considering Rei a little sister and making her a role model during the school trip to New York.

During that year's summer festival, Shouko witnesses the closeness between Hitohito and Rumiko, discovering that Rumiko has fallen in love with him and finding herself in a conflict of feelings. However, at the cultural festival, thanks to Maya Takarazuka writing a play perfect for her to perform in, Shouko indirectly reveals that she too has fallen in love with him. Later, after a heart-to-heart, Shouko acknowledges Rumiko as a romantic rival, encouraging her not to give up her feelings for the sake of their friendship. Rumiko agrees, and from that moment on, both become more assertive regarding Hitohito. The climax comes on Valentine's Day, when Rumiko finally confesses her feelings to Hitohito, making him realize that both she and Shouko are in love with him. After tearfully rejecting Rumiko, Hitohito encounters Shouko and confesses his feelings. Surprised but happy, Shouko accepts, and they officially become a couple.

Family Shuuko Komi Shouko's mother. She looks very much like her, but she's quite extroverted. Shouko tends to get embarrassed when her mother acts like a young girl in front of her friends, especially when she flirts with Hitohito.

Masayoshi Komi Shouko's father. His personality is like his daughter's; he doesn't speak, but he still gets along with his family and frequently shows his affection.

Shousuke Komi. Shouko's younger brother. He looks quite a bit like his sister, and like her, he's very popular. He knows how to communicate, but he doesn't because he doesn't need to interact with other people. Shouko loves to tease him and insist he play with her, though Shousuke reluctantly agrees. Akira Komi. Shouko's young cousin and the two are emotionally close. At first, it seemed she had the same communication problems as Shouko, but it was just shyness and fear of Shouko's stoic gaze. It's the closest thing they have to a sisterly relationship. Friend and boyfriend Hitohito Tadano He is equally her best, first, and dearest friend. Without him, she would still be trapped in a bubble that wasn't of her own making. Because of this, and regardless of any potential romantic developments, there is a precious place in Shouko's heart reserved only for Hitohito.

The reason Shouko is drawn to Hitohito is because he was the only one who bothered to understand her and acknowledge her problem. He is patient and persistent with her, and although Shouko hasn't been able to overcome her disorder, her situation improved dramatically thanks to his efforts. For this reason, she constantly seeks to be by his side and he is her main point of reference when making decisions.
