In the darkness of night, an assassin slipped into the apartment of her new assignment. Moving slowly and silently, she stepped into the darkness of the hallway closet. It was a tight fit, but years of discipline had prepared her for situations like this. Her target came home every day at the same time. Not today however.
For the first twenty minutes, she was still and calculated until the silence started to itch, so to speak. "No," she whispered, "focus," but the tune in her head started getting louder. Unfortunately, the tune playing in her head only grew louder. Before long, she found herself humming under her breath, and within minutes, she was gently swaying to the invisible music. Her eyes drifted toward the clothes hanging around her, and an idea struck her. She imagined herself as her target.
"Oh, hello there," she said, shifting her voice into an attempt at a man's voice. "I'm blah blah. I have a very stable job. I hope no one is hiding in my closet! Ahhhhhh I've been stabbed!" She let out a quiet giggle. By the second hour, she reached into her pocket and pulled out her smartphone. After scrolling through her apps to see what she wanted to do, she clicked on an anime she'd been meaning to catch up on. Slowly, she slid down the wall and sat criss-cross on the floor, her head down as she watched. This was short-lived as her phone slowly slipped from her hand, landing softly in her lap. She was out cold.
Then came the sound of the front door lock turning, and the sound of the door closing echoed through the apartment. The assassin bolted awake, her eyes snapping open. For a split second, she didn't know where she was, and then with a blur of motion, she swiped her hand across her face, wiping away the drool. Her fingers closed around the hilt of the combat knife, and she scrambled to her feet. Tightening her grip on the knife, she bolted out of the closet to attack. Before she could even attack, she trips on a boot falling on her face.
