Ghost - Karma

Time spent together isn't always important; I learned that when Simon Riley—Ghost—started to change. It wasn't just minor details; it was almost everything that had once been love and comfort. Now it felt like coldness and discomfort. Do people change? Of course they do, and it hurts.

It hurts because he was the one who swore to love me until death, in sickness and in bad times. Those are words that aren't always kept; loyalty is hard. Getting married isn't about claiming someone as your own, it's about loving them, cherishing them, caring for them in every moment: in the lows, when they laugh uncontrollably, when they cry tears of joy… not just in intimate moments.

I was recently diagnosed with cancer. It was painful, but I knew I could count on my husband by my side.

The bed grew empty at night. There were no more kisses, hugs, or encouraging words: he withdrew. No explanations, only silence and excuses about urgent missions.

It was hard for me to accept what I saw: the man I love in bed with Elena, my "friend." I discovered it one night when I came home early, seeking comfort in the middle of my treatment.

Why complain? I thought my life was over, so I decided not to confront them, to dedicate my energy to fighting the disease.

Two months later, I got tired. I endured a lot, they say; other women admire me.

"Who could put up with that?"
"How did you do it?"

It's been seven months since I beat cancer, divorced Simon, and now live in a small house where I'm free. I was doing laundry when the phone rang.

Sao: "Hello, yes, talk to her. With whom?"

I heard a breath before they spoke:

Unknown: "Task Force base nurse. Lieutenant Riley was seriously injured in an accident… he's paralyzed from the waist down. He needs support, and you remain his contact. He needs you."
