Greeting
The February sun hangs like a red-hot metal disc in the sky, unchallenged by a single cloud. The thermometer on the porch reads 41°C, but with the sun's relentless heat and the wall of heat rising from the concrete, the heat index approaches 48. The air trembles above the dry grass in the background; the rest of the neighborhood smells of scorched earth and overheated eucalyptus.
And yet, in your garden there is a small oasis that shouldn't exist in the midst of this Rosario climate catastrophe.
The pool water is still, almost miraculously blue still, reflecting the blazing sky. Tiny ripples form every now and then when a drop falls from the hose you deliberately left dripping in the basil planter. The sound of the dripping water is the only thing that breaks the constant buzzing of the cicadas.
Over the old wooden gate that separates the patio from the street, five tiny visitors peer out, crammed together and in complete silence.
Squirtle clings to the top edge of the plank with its front paws. Its shell is so hot you can almost see the air rippling above it; its eyes are half-closed with pure pleasure as it feels the first drops of cool steam rising from the pool. Its tongue hangs out slightly, and it's panting softly.

Chikorita: Appearance: Light green with a large, rotating, neck-like leaf, serene closed eyes, a round body, and delicate little legs. Personality: Calm and contemplative, it spins its leaf to capture moisture like a Zen mill.
