Draco Malfoy

As a member of the Squad, Draco revels in his power over other students (for example, deducting points for completely trumped-up reasons). Later, as part of this team, he participates in the capture of Harry and his friends (Ron, Neville and Luna, Hermione, and Ginny) when they attempt to contact Sirius Black through the fireplace in the new Headmistress Umbridge's office. After interrogating them, Professor Umbridge takes Harry and Hermione to the Forbidden Forest, believing she will be shown some secret weapon of Albus Dumbledore's. Draco Malfoy remained in charge of the Squad members guarding the remaining prisoners. However, the prisoners disarmed their guards and, having broken free, joined Harry and Hermione, who had meanwhile escaped Madam Headmistress's presence. All six went to the Ministry of Magic, where they met with a team of Death Eaters, now led by Malfoy Sr.

Draco's father also suffered a defeat in the mission he led. Members of the Order of the Phoenix, who came to the boys' aid, handed over almost the entire team of Death Eaters who had attacked the Ministry to the Aurors, who in turn sent them to Azkaban. Overnight, the Malfoys lost their high social standing. Draco and Harry seemed to have swapped places: now Potter, who had been vilified in the Daily Prophet all year, was once again the "Boy Who Lived," while Malfoy was no longer burdened by the glow of his father's wealth, but by the shadow of his shame. When Draco tried to settle accounts with Harry in the corridor of the Hogwarts Express, practically the entire Dumbledore's Army rushed to their leader's aid... No, after all, Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle looked much better when they arrived in London last year...[8]

Draco's school life only improves in his fifth year. Although forbidden to discuss at Hogwarts what he heard at home, Draco finds pleasure in small accomplishments: he becomes a prefect (Harry does not), and Dolores Umbridge, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, seems to dislike Harry just as much as he does. He becomes a member of Dolores Umbridge's Inquisitorial Squad and spends his time trying to uncover the forbidden organization Dumbledore's Army, which Harry and a ragtag group of students have formed to secretly learn practical magic. However, just at the moment of triumph, when Draco has Harry and his comrades cornered and when it seems that this time Harry is bound to be expelled by Professor Umbridge, Harry slips through his fingers.[2]

In 1995, Draco and Pansy Parkinson become prefects of their house (Slytherin). Many expected Harry Potter to take the same position in Gryffindor, but Ron Weasley is appointed prefect. This news stuns Malfoy. As soon as the Hogwarts Express departs the platform, he barges into Harry's compartment: "Tell me, Potter, what's it like being second to the Weasleys?" Draco's logic is clear. In his opinion, the Weasleys are far beneath the Malfoys, and if Potter has sunk one step lower than Ron, then Draco is now at the top! But then Ron becomes goalkeeper for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and Malfoy becomes nervous. This Weasley has risen too quickly. Then Draco composes a mocking ditty, "Weasley, Our King," which "glorifies" the goalkeeper who brings victory only to his opponents. But despite the psychological pressure on the Gryffindor team and the underhanded tactics during the game, Slytherin lost the match. An enraged Malfoy hurled insults at the Weasley parents and Harry's mother. His provocation succeeded: the Weasley twins and Harry Potter, who had engaged in a "Muggle brawl" on the pitch, were banned from Quidditch "permanently."

While many thought Harry Potter, who had witnessed the Dark Lord's return, was a liar and a fantasist, Draco Malfoy was one of the few who knew Harry was telling the truth. His own father sensed the burning of his Dark Mark and flew to join the Dark Lord, witnessing the graveyard duel between Harry and Voldemort.

Discussing these events at Malfoy Manor evoked conflicting feelings in Draco Malfoy. On the one hand, he was delighted by the secret knowledge that Voldemort had returned and that, as his father said, the family's glory days had returned. On the other hand, whispers about how Harry had once again managed to evade the Dark Lord's attempt to kill him filled Draco with anger and envy. The Death Eaters disliked Harry, both as an obstacle and as a symbol.

It is known that Draco Malfoy was born on June 5, 1980.

The only child of Lucius Malfoy and Narcissa Malfoy (née Black), who were born into ancient pureblood wizarding families.

Draco Malfoy grew up an only child at Malfoy Manor, a magnificent estate in Wiltshire that had been in his family for centuries. From the moment he could speak, he realized he was triply special: first, he was a wizard, second, he was a pureblood, and third, he was a Malfoy. Draco grew up amidst a sense of regret that the Dark Lord had failed to lead the wizarding community, though he was constantly reminded that such thoughts should not be expressed outside his family and a small circle of friends; otherwise, "Daddy would be in trouble." As a child, Draco socialized with the scions of pureblood families like his father, former Death Eaters, and arrived at Hogwarts with a small circle of friends, including Theodore Nott and Vincent Crabbe.

Like any other child Harry Potter's age, Draco had heard stories of the Boy-Who-Lived throughout his childhood. Over the years, many different theories circulated among wizards about how Harry had survived the deadly attack, and one of the most persistent was that Harry himself was a great Dark wizard. The fact that he was isolated from the wizarding community seemed a compelling argument to all who wished to believe so, and Draco's father, the cunning Lucius Malfoy, was one of those most willing to support this theory. He consoled himself with the thought that he, Lucius, might be given a second chance at world domination if this Potter boy turned out to be another, even greater pureblood leader. So, knowing that if he doesn't do something, his father will definitely not approve, and hoping that he can take some interesting news home, Draco Malfoy extends his hand to Harry Potter when he discovers who he is at Hogwarts.

Draco belongs to a pureblood wizarding family, among his relatives are Sirius Black, Nymphadora Tonks, Andromeda Tonks, Bellatrix Lestrange, and he is also distantly related to the Weasley and Potter families, as well as many other wizarding families.

Most of his close relatives shared Voldemort's ideas about the privileges of pure-blood wizards and sided with the Dark Lord during the First Wizarding War.
