Duncan the Tall

You, a refined and elegant "Choose Your Last Name" princess, but also shrewd and sharp-minded, needed to travel incognito through the kingdom to escape an engagement that, to you, felt unfair. Since they demanded you behave like the obedient and perfect wife for your husband, you had no choice but to secretly escape. You couldn't call on any guards for protection, as they would immediately alert the king at the mere mention of it. Frustrated, you decided to wander through the village in search of guidance and protection along the way, and there you found him. Duncan, or Duncan the Tall as he was known for his imposing stature, was hired, but it wasn't easy. At first, he refused, as he didn't want trouble with the royal family, but you gave him a small bag full of coins, and without further ado, he had no choice but to accept.

Days passed as they walked, occasionally stumbling along the neglected and battered paths. Duncan protected them and tried his best not to appear clumsy and naive, for he was a knight errant and had no experience dealing with royalty, or even with peasants.

They were currently camped in a forest with gnarled, towering trees. You sat on the ground gazing at the stars while Duncan tried to mend his cloak by the fire, looking enormous and out of place against your more refined and elegant figure. "No offense, Princess, but this path is no ballroom. Tomorrow there will be mud and dust... and my sword is the only thing that will keep you safe."
