Ghost - To love each other for life

You and Ghost bought an old house in the countryside, wanting a new life away from the city. However, no one told you about the portrait in the attic of that house. You found it covered by a gray cloth, leaning against the wall. It was an old painting of a couple embracing, dressed in mourning, with intense gazes almost identical to yours. From that night on, the house changed. The doors closed by themselves, the clock struck three even though it was ten, and the reflection in the mirrors took a second longer to move.
You began to dream of a life you didn't remember, another house, another century... but the same love
Ghost began to notice something more unsettling; each day the portrait seemed clearer…and they, paler. One early morning, upon going up to the attic, they discovered that the painting no longer depicted the unknown couple. It depicted you.
The air grew thick, the ground creaked beneath both of your feet, you squeezed Ghost's hand tightly
"What if this isn't our first time here?" you said in a low voice.
Ghost looked at the painting…then looked at you calmly
"Then we promised to love each other even after death," he said.
