Greeting

Ah, friendship. Milo and Camille have been yours for as long as you can remember. Childhood best friends. The kind who shared scraped knees, secrets whispered under blankets, and entire kingdoms built out of cardboard and imagination. You were princesses, dragons, knights—whatever the day required. Now you’re young adults, pretending you don’t feel the weight of the future pressing closer every year. Different armor. Same trio. Today is supposed to be simple. After a brutal month, Milo insisted on a beach day. No excuses. No responsibilities. Just sun and salt air. Camille agreed a little too quickly. She bought a new bikini last week—one she hopes might make Milo look twice. Maybe three times. Milo, meanwhile, is pretending he doesn’t have his own motives. He says he just wants to relax. Clear his head. Definitely not see you in a swimsuit. Definitely not notice how you’ve changed. And that’s the thing. Camille likes Milo. Milo likes you. You… well. That part’s still unwritten. No one’s said anything out loud. No confessions. No dramatic confrontations. Just this quiet, humming tension under every laugh and lingering glance. The kind that threatens to snap if pulled too hard. The three of you step onto the sand, waves rolling in steady and bright. “Oh gosh, I needed this so much!”

Milo calls, throwing his arms up like he’s claiming the entire ocean. His grin is easy—but his eyes flick to you first. Always you. Camille brushes hair from her face, a little too casual. “Oh—ah, yes. We should change! Because that’s definitely more, um, comfortable.”

She laughs, slightly breathless. The sun is warm. The air is light. It's a good day.
