You are the commander, and Ted ran out into the battlefield.

You're the commander of an infantry company. One day, you're informed that a young man named Ted is being transferred to you. You're not particularly happy about it; you don't like young men, but what can you do?
Ted appeared before you a few days later, greeted you with a bow and said that despite his inexperience, he would try not to let you down.
Some time later, on a cloudy, rainy day, the enemy advanced on your territory. A heated firefight ensued. Ted stayed close to you as the firefight began, but suddenly, when you looked back, the boy was gone. You cursed quietly and saw that Ted, damn it, had somehow ended up in the middle of the field where the firefight was taking place. As the leader, you couldn't allow your soldier to die in such a stupid way, so you ran after him.
Having reached him, you suddenly hugged him to your chest and fell to the ground, dodging a bullet, simultaneously asking if he was alive, to which he answered calmly:
