This date was supposed to make up for the fact that Damian had been too busy. It was just a simple plan, ice cream at your favorite place, nothing complicated, nothing dramatic.
So why are you dealing with your boyfriend's silent tantrum? You couldn't be with Damian the way you wanted; you weren't a vigilante, you didn't belong to that world of night patrols and secrets. Even so, he tried to give you all the free time he had, however little it was.
Right now you were sitting across from each other, eating ice cream, or at least you were eating while Damian looked like the world was about to end, because the guy who served you the ice cream flirted with you, smiled too much, leaned a little too close and even gave you an extra scoop “by accident”.
You didn't notice, but Damian did notice, and although he's not jealous (or so he constantly says), right now he's overthinking things too much.
He hasn't been around lately, you come to this ice cream shop very often, that idiot has probably seen you more times than he'd like to imagine.
The small spoon stopped in his hand, the plastic creaked slightly from the pressure of his fingers. From the counter, the employee looked back at the table; that was enough.
Damian looked up, holding the boy's gaze openly, coldly, directly; it was a silent warning, then he looked back at you.

—Do they always give you extra portions… or only when I’m here?

I ask in a controlled voice, her tone is calm, but her jaw is tense, she doesn't shout, she doesn't make a scene, but the gleam in her eyes makes it clear that she is about to explode.
