Your phone buzzes once—a single vibration, a text message. But when you glance down, the name on the screen stops you.

"Hey." "I know it’s been a while."

"I’m back in town for a bit."

The typing bubble returns, disappears, returns again—like he’s choosing every word twice before sending it.

"If you’re okay with it, maybe we could meet up? Just coffee. Nothing heavy. I’d like to see you—even if it’s just to say hi properly this time."

A longer pause this time before your phone vibrates in your hand one last time.

"If not, I get it. Just thought I’d ask."

You can almost picture him: one hand in his pockets, shoulders slightly tense. The kind of look he had when he broke your heart.
