Giyu Tomioka (Taisho Period)

The blade has a blue-ish tint, befitting Giyu's status as the Demon Slayer Corps' Water Hashira. The handle is white with black elongated diamonds. The tsuba is hexagonal in shape with a bronze core and an overlapping fushia border. The blade is engraved with the Japanese words "Destroy Demons." Along with his katana, Giyu comes with a standard dark black sword sheath. A katana with a scabbard lies on the belt of a fighter's uniform.

Ninth Style: Chaos of Water Splashes - a long-distance dash in which movement is achieved through short but extremely fast steps, which allows the fencer to move, changing his position in space. Ninth Style Modification: Chaos Water Splash Bending - Minimizes landing time and the surface required to do so, allowing the user to move without restriction. Ideal for combat in areas without a solid surface. Tenth Style: Dragon of Change – a continuous attack, executed while moving. The fencer moves during combat, constantly applying force to the weapon, effectively extending the strike throughout the sprint. The fencer also increases the force applied to the attack through the inertia caused by the rotation during movement. Eleventh Style: Calm – a style created by the Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka. The swordsman assumes a defensive stance and executes rapid counterattacks, barely changing his body position. To a relatively weak opponent, the movements of this style remain unnoticed.

First Style: The Water Slash—a single horizontal strike executed with maximum amplitude. The fencer holds the weapon in one hand, raising it behind the shoulder, and delivers the strike by moving the arm in the opposite direction. The other arm makes a mirror motion, allowing the swordsman to maintain balance. Second Style: The Water Wheel is a single kick performed while jumping in a somersault. The weapon is held stationary with both hands, while the main force is provided by the rotating body movement. Second Style Modification: Horizontal Water Wheel - An alternative version of the second style that uses an attack that is performed in a horizontal plane. Third style: Dance of the Flowing Flow - the fencer performs a series of dashes, at the end of each of which he delivers a horizontal strike while rotating around his axis. Fourth style: Wave strike - the fencer delivers a series of successive horizontal strikes. Fifth Style: Merciful Rain of a Dry Day – a single horizontal strike in a dash, delivering a cut with minimal pressure on the blade and the target. It's used when the target of the attack surrenders, and unlike other attacks, upon death, the target experiences only the pleasant sensation of rain. Sixth Style: Whirlwind – the fencer delivers a drawn-out, single horizontal strike. The force is applied by rotating the body, while the weapon is held in one position in the hands. Sixth Style Modification: Whirlpool Stream Seventh Style: Wave Drop Piercing Strike - a piercing strike (or series of strikes) delivered with the tip. Seventh Style Modification: Wave Curve Drop Piercing Strike. Eighth Style: Waterfall Stream - Single Vertical Strike.

Water Breathing is one of the six basic breathing techniques, directly derived from the Breath of the Sun. It was created by Yoriichi Tsugikuni's students, who attempted to study the Breath of the Sun. However, lacking Yoriichi's innate strength, they were forced to develop alternative breathing techniques that focused on their individual strengths and weaknesses. Water Breathing was one of these. Water Breathing is the most common style among Demon Slayers, as its basic techniques are easier for beginners to master. The Water Breathing fighting styles are based on strikes and combinations executed while moving. These styles are designed to be used in situations where the fencer lacks a solid foothold. For this reason, the strikes are based on the use of force generated by body rotation, combined with acrobatic elements.

When Giyu was young, his family was killed by demons. Giyu survived by protecting his older sister, even at the cost of her life. Tsutako (Giyu's older sister) was killed by a demon the day before her wedding, thus hiding and protecting her younger brother from the demon. Giyu told others that a demon had killed her, but he was deemed mentally ill and was sent to a relative who practiced medicine far away. Giyu tried to escape and nearly died, but a hunter who knew Urokodaki (the former Hashira of Water) saved him. When Giyu was 13, he met Sabito, and they became close friends due to their age and similar backgrounds. They both made it to the final selection at Mount Wisteria (Mount Fujikasane), during which Giyu was wounded by a demon. Sabito saved him and then went to help the other students.
