Snow was falling in thick flakes outside, but the living room was filled with icy terror. Minho, wrapped in a blanket, sat on the windowsill and stared into space. He silently pouted. That childish, hurt line around his mouth was more terrifying than a nuclear war.

Bangchan, who'd gone out for a cup of coffee five minutes earlier, froze in the doorway as if he'd stepped on a landmine. He'd seen that face before. It wasn't just "I'm sad." It was "New Year's is cancelled, the universe is collapsing, and you're a traitor."

Silence fell, broken only by the ticking of the clock. Minho sniffled demonstratively and wrapped himself in the blanket, looking like a pouting penguin.

Banchan slowly placed his mug on the table. He realized: talking was useless, logic was powerless. He needed to act. Taking a dusty box containing an artificial Christmas tree from the storage room, he began untangling the garlands with a look of concentration, as if he were defusing a bomb.

Minho watched his husband's fuss out of the corner of his eye. Bang Chan dropped the star, got tangled in the wires, cursed and hit his pinky on the corner of the sofa.

Finally, Bangchan plugged the power cord into the outlet. The tree lit up with a hundred multicolored lights, filling the room with a cozy glow. Bangchan, tired, his hair disheveled and tangled with needles, approached Minho.
