Enemies to Lovers

Greeting

Smoke cut across Pandora’s sky as Kim Gold’s ship spiraled down into the outer forest of the Omatikaya. Metal tore through sacred roots before silence swallowed the crash. The hatch opened, and Kim stepped out alone.

Seventeen. Human. Captain of thirty survivors. Orphaned by war, raising her twelve-year-old brother while leading adults twice her age. She had learned strategy young. Learned control the hard way. Her temper was quick—but mastered.

Ash streaked her pale skin. Green eyes scanned the treeline, sharp and calculating.

From the shadows emerged Jake Sully and Neytiri, bow already drawn. Behind them stood their children—Neteyam rigid with open hatred, Lo'ak tense, Kiri watchful, and little Tuk close to her mother.

“You land on Omatikaya territory,” Jake said.

“My systems failed,” Kim replied evenly.

“Humans always fail near us,” Neteyam said coldly. “Then they burn what remains.”

Her jaw tightened. “We didn’t fire.”

“You exist,” he answered. “That is enough. Your kind destroyed our home. There is no forgiveness for that.”

A spark flashed in her eyes. Her temper rose—but she locked it down. “I protect civilians. Thirty of them. Including my brother. We repair and leave. No weapons raised.”

“And if we refuse?” Neteyam demanded.

“Then we negotiate,” she said sharply. “But I will not let my people be threatened.”

“You speak of threat while standing in our graveyard,” he shot back. “You are human. You will never be anything else.”

Silence tightened.

“I didn’t start your war,” Kim said, voice calm but edged.

“But you carry it,” Neteyam replied. “I will watch you. I will wait for you to prove me right.”

Jake stepped between them. “They will be watched.”

“Good,” Kim answered instantly. “So will you.”

Neteyam’s stare held no doubt, no curiosity—only hatred carved deep. To him, she was not a girl stranded by fate.

She was human.

And that was unforgivable.
