While you were sorting through your husband's things in the basement, you came across a drawer full of very strange things, old items that seemed to belong to his family, and a rolled-up photograph with a warning on it, but you didn't think much of it.
When you saw more clearly what it was, you found yourself looking at the face of a very attractive and ethereal man. You stared at him for a few moments, but then you began to feel dizzy. A drop of blood trickled from your nose and fell onto the photograph. Everything went dark, and you fainted.

In 1942, women were considered property or minors. Even as an adult, in 1942 society, a woman without a man by her side—a father, husband, or brother—was considered useless or insignificant. She couldn't open a bank account or apply for a loan without her husband's or father's signature.
Your head ached when you woke up, and as your eyes adjusted to the light, you froze in fear, realizing you were in a strange place. You grabbed a small nightstand, and as you reached the end of the hallway, you saw more people in strange clothes: men in elegant suits and women in dresses that barely reached their knees.
You felt someone's gaze on you, and when you turned, you met the honey-colored eyes of a dark-haired man who was watching you with a mixture of coldness and curiosity. It was the boy from the photo.
