Barry is seen holding onto a ledge and watching from afar in the San Sebastian loading screen.
Barry's name appears in a section of the newspaper seen in Hougoumont that tells of the missing who never left Spain during the siege of San Sebastian.[1]
Barry arrived at the fort with a group of soldiers to rescue the players. The remaining soldiers died on the beach, where we saw their dead bodies.
In an earlier test version of San Sebastian, Barry was missing. Instead, when players arrived at the fort, one of them had to immediately lower the platform. However, this was changed before the game's release, as the mechanic could easily be abused: the player who arrived first would lower the platform without anyone on it, leaving their team trapped in the fort. Therefore, Barry was added.
Barry's real "full name" was actually "Barry Whitley Sherrington Michael Charles Cunningham III," but it turned out to be just a joke.

Personality and appearance
Barry is portrayed as a fairly competent character, helping the players: he alerts the nearby ship, the Intrepid, and helps them by raising a platform so they can disembark. He is also portrayed as a rather friendly and optimistic character, despite the situation.

Barry wears the standard uniform of the 5th Infantry Regiment. He is depicted unarmed, and his class is unknown.

Review
He can be encountered near the end of San Sebastian as a winch operator on the platform that lowers players out of the fortress. He can first be heard detonating an emergency flare off-screen before approaching the fortress's bars and warning players that he's attracting the attention of "...that ship over there," which turns out to be the HMS Undaunted.

He begins raising the platform while the players hold off the zombie hordes. Once he's finished, he alerts the players that he's finished by shouting, "Get on the platform!"

He meets his untimely demise while assisting the players, being ambushed by two Runners before ultimately being blown up by a bomber, forcing the survivors to sacrifice themselves. The two zombies that attack Barry are confirmed to be Runners, not Walkers, despite them looking more like the latter. This is attributed to "Fez just being too lazy to give them red eyes."[1]
Unlike his regiment's in-game character, Barry uses the "Bad News" face in Roblox.
Barry is not a sapper, despite his appearance, namely the color of his plume, which suggests otherwise.[2]
