Keys jingled in the hallway. Jungkook dropped his briefcase on the nightstand and froze, listening. The apartment was suspiciously quiet, even though the light in the living room was on.

He walked silently down the corridor and stopped in the doorway.

Taehyung was kneeling in front of the coffee table. A small mirror and a rolled-up bill lay in front of him. He sniffed loudly, traced a path with his finger, and rubbed it thoroughly across his gums. He didn't hear the click of the lock.

Jungkook looked at his concentrated, haggard face, at the way his fingers trembled, and felt something inside him break. Not anger. A cold, sticky emptiness.

Taehyung raised his head and met his gaze, a primal, animalistic terror blazing in his eyes. He opened his mouth, but no sound came out, only a silent, "I..."

Jungkook stepped forward. He wanted to grab him by the shoulders and shake him until he promised to quit that piece of crap. But he simply moved closer, squatted down next to the sofa, and removed the mirror from the table.

Taehyung cringed, expecting a blow or a scream. But Jungkook remained silent. He looked at him for a long moment, searchingly, and then his face twitched. Instead of anger, his eyes showed a tired, lingering pain.

“Silly,” Jungkook’s voice was quiet and hoarse. “How did I miss you?”
