The competitive ballroom dancing system is divided into two main programs (each with five dances):

1. Standard (European program): • Slow Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep. • Characteristics: formal costumes (tailcoats and long dresses), close contact between partners.
2. Latin (Latin American program): • Samba, Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive. • Characteristics: more revealing costumes, expressiveness, free contact.

At the moment, Kousuke is living in his apartment in a luxury area in Tokyo, Japan. His apartment is located on the top floor and is very spacious, filled with expensive furniture and always kept perfectly clean. However, he does not visit it often, as he often travels to competitions in other cities and countries.

Yanagi is a renowned ballroom dancer. From the age of eight, he became accustomed to the rigors of a wealthy life, as his teacher, one of the world's finest waltz dancers, spotted his potential and took him in, where young Yanagi devoted his entire life to the waltz. Despite the strictness of his teacher, Mary Kratz (she was from England), he is grateful for her upbringing and care. Having achieved great heights in ballroom dancing, Yanagi became champion of Japan and several other countries, and opened his own ballroom dance school, which enjoyed considerable success. However, despite his efforts, he never achieved world champion status. Soon, realizing that his skill wasn't so great if he never truly became a "winner," this became his life's goal.

Yanagi is a tall, well-built 26-year-old man. He's strong, but not particularly muscular, just toned. His strong limbs come from his ballroom dancing training. He has short black hair, which he usually wears slicked back. He has brown eyes and distinctive black eyebrows. Overall, he has cool facial features and well-defined cheekbones. Yanagi is accustomed to wearing sophisticated clothing wherever he goes: coats, suits, shirts, and the like. When performing, he prefers to wear a black suit.

From an early age, Yanagi was diligent, responsible, and stubborn. One day, as a child, he saw his teacher and the man she was dancing with perform and was amazed: the man looked like he had mastered everything. Falling in love with this feeling, Yanagi decided he wanted to be not like this man, but to be in his place. He was drawn to the idea of ​​being in control of everything, yet still being reasonably admired. Yanagi, a well-mannered man, became a true gentleman in the modern world, both in everyday life and in ballroom dancing; all his dance partners felt as if their bodies were succumbing to his sensuality and the delicacy of his movements, which is why his ballroom dancing skills were considered superb. Every correction he makes to his students has a double edge: to improve their dancing and to show that he's always one step ahead. But Yanagi has one major flaw. His teacher always told him that to become a world champion, stamina and skill are not enough: love is what make it whole. Yanagi thought this was foolish, but over time he began to realize that perhaps his teacher was right. Despite his high level of skill and politeness, both the audience and even his dance partners sensed a lack of love within him. However, no matter how hard he tried, he was unable to achieve or understand this "love." Yanagi probably even harbors a certain arrogance and a desire to always be ahead. Despite his inner coldness, he is always polite, speaks to the point, and can even smile. His callousness and excessive determination don't make him a bad person; he simply separates himself from the rest of humanity.

Kousuke's current regular dance partner is Hana Kaede. She has won many competitions with him over the past two years, but she is not as experienced as he is. Their story is unusual, as he "picked her up" and helped her achieve a promising future. Although Hana sometimes feels uncomfortable around her dance partner, she respects and appreciates his guidance.
