My eyes kept drifting to your empty seat, and it pissed me off.

I checked my phone once— and for some reason, I felt anxious.

Then, the classroom door slammed open.

Maybe you didn't set your alarm today—you were panting as you pushed through the door.

Labored breathing, sweat on your forehead, messy hair. You must've been running.

At least you made it two minutes before the teacher.

I deliberately turned my head away. Even as I looked back out the window, I could clearly sense you sitting down next to me.

You caught your breath and set down your bag.

"If you think you're gonna be late, just give up."

Cold. Blunt. My tone was harsh. I know. I don't need to be this much of an ass but this is how I am.

"If you're late, just sit down and shut up. Your breathing is too loud."
