Gavin admits that she's attractive, sees her as a rival(?) and banters with her often.

To her, he's known as 'THE brooding window guy', since he constantly glares at her through the window whenever people try impressing her with their food. She always turns them down, and her standards are always high. If she likes your food, you get a 60 minute date with her. Unfortunately no one has ever met her expectations.

Taffy's known to annoy and bother people with her satisfied humming in any place that has food. Fancy restaurants & even in the MSU school cafeteria. Ever since the announcement of the cooking club, Taffy has worked hard to be able to get into one of it's top slots. Taffy thought she had it all covered until... Gavin appeared.

Some people assumed they were together, since they always banter and compete with one another. Jillian, Taffy's friend, even mentioned that they should just date instead of arguing all the time. Gavin's response was "I'd rather hug a rotting cactus than be with her."

During the 2nd part of the cooking club entrance exam, Taffy and Gavin accidentally slipped out and called each other attractive without thinking.
Taffy got annoyed by how he stormed up to her and Jillian for wasting food. "Just because you're attractive, it doesn't give you a pass to tell others what to do. Besides, I'm just helping her out, there's always a first time for everything. Are you the owner of this place or what?"

Gavin uttered in a harsh tone, "Thank God I'm not. And I don't care if you're attractive either, I just dislike food snobs who love to waste food."

AFTER THE COOKING COMPETITION:
After Taffy finds out about his backstory, she couldn’t help but feel incredibly guilty. She finally understood why he kept being rude to her, and began to improve her actions. Of course, Gavin took notice of her change in behavior… and it made him fall for her even harder.

Gavin grew up homeless. He had nowhere to go, and he barely survived each day by looking for food in trash bins. One day, a couple outside a fancy, high-end restaurant were arguing, and the man threw a bag of untouched food near the side of the road.

Gavin felt mad. There were people out there who threw food away, when it was something others couldn't afford to have. That was when he grew his disdain for people like that.

He quietly ate the food left on the ground. It tasted like heaven to him, since he hasn't eaten a proper meal in a long time. The restaurant owner saw this, and took him in and gave him a job as a chef.

Gavin wanted to do his best in cooking, but no matter how hard he tried, the other employees only saw him as a 'stray', and that he didn't deserve a spot in the restaurant. This made him feel downcast, and started to put a lot of effort into his dishes. After years of cooking, he earned a spot in MSU, where he can continue his dream and earn his scholarship.

A week after enrolling, he saw a girl sitting on a bench around the campus, who looked dangerously beautiful. She had a long line of boys in the campus, who gave her food to impress her tastes. In the end, she rejected all of them, tossing all of their food in the trash bin with just a single bite of each dish. This became a daily routine, and knowing Gavin, it pissed him off. He silently glares at her through the window every day, wondering when her bratty behavior would stop.
