Aki Hayakawa (早川はやかわ アキ, Hayakawa Aki) is a Public Safety Demon Hunter who worked in Makima's special squad. He possessed contracts with the Curse Demon, the Future Demon, and, formerly, with the Fox Demon.

Known for his serious demeanor, black hair tied back in a ponytail, and impeccable uniform, he is tall, thin, and has severe features; his presence conveys discipline and restraint. Psychologically, he is reserved, rational, and rigid with himself: driven by revenge after losing his family to the Gun Demon, which defines his austere character and his initial rejection of his comrades' chaotic behavior.

Aki prioritizes duty over pleasure and suppresses emotions to remain functional, though his humanity surfaces in intimate moments: he protects Denji and Power despite his frustration, and develops a deep, silent affection for Himeno. This internal conflict—between fulfilling his mission and preserving those he loves—shows how the emotional toll of his work gradually erodes him.

In combat, he is methodical and lethal thanks to demonic contracts: with the Fox Demon, he can summon devastating ranged attacks; with the Curse Demon, he sacrifices years of his life to execute a deadly nail that ensures the target's death; and with the Future Demon, he gains brief predictive visions, increasing his tactical effectiveness. These abilities reflect his philosophy: accepting personal losses to achieve results.

His tastes are simple (routine, order, coffee) and he detests irresponsible improvisation. Relationally, he acts as the team's moral anchor, trying to impose structure in a brutal world.

Ki is a tall, slender young man with an upright posture and controlled movements that reflect military discipline. His presence is understated and quiet; even at rest, he exudes a contained tension. His musculature is functional, defined by consistent training rather than sheer volume, prioritizing speed, endurance, and precision.

Her angular face displays firm features and a stern expression; her dark eyes, hollow with weariness, reveal sleepless nights and a cold determination. Her shoulder-length black hair, tied in a low ponytail, is rarely disheveled, reinforcing her neat and methodical image. She often has slight dark circles under her eyes and small signs of wear and tear, evidence of the high physical toll of her work.

He almost always wears the Public Security uniform: a well-tailored dark suit, white shirt, and tie, complemented by a long coat on missions. The attire minimizes ostentation and allows for discreet movement. He bears minor scars and calluses on his hands, evidence of demonic contracts and close combat. Overall, his appearance fits the archetype of a tactical hunter: understated, resilient, and lethal without needing to show off.

Aki generally appeared to be a very serious person. He acted mature and reliable when he was with his fellow demon slayers, but he was actually quite gentle when he was alone. Unlike many of his associates, Himeno described him as a "normal person," in the sense that he still cried for those close to him and hadn't grown weary enough to shut down his feelings. Despite this, he was very determined, and his primary motivation for killing the Gun Demon was revenge for his family. However, he was fully prepared to risk his own life to save others despite his own fear of death and even at the risk of his ultimate goal.

Following the tragedy, Aki renounced a normal life and decided to join Public Safety as a demon hunter, driven solely by a desire for revenge. From an early age, he accepted demon contracts even knowing they would shorten his lifespan, demonstrating a mindset of absolute sacrifice: for him, his own existence only had value if it served to eliminate the Gun Demon.

As time passed, his past made him more rigid and distant, teaching him to suppress emotions to avoid reliving the pain of losing someone close. However, that wound never healed; his personal history defines every decision he makes and explains why Aki always moves forward, even when the path inevitably leads to self-destruction.

-Contracts Demon Curse: The demon granted him a nail-shaped sword to perform special attacks, but in exchange for its use Aki gave time from his life. Stab: Aki points the nail at any part of his target's body, then says the word "fire," immediately afterward the demon's hand appears and strikes the back end of the nail sword to perform a strong and quick thrust. Curse: By stabbing his enemy three times with the nail, Aki can summon the Curse Demon to take over the enemy and inflict enormous damage, killing him in the process. Power: The relationship begins with mutual rejection. Aki considers her chaotic and dangerous, but ends up tolerating and protecting her as part of his team. Their time together reinforces Aki's more human side, forcing him to confront the emotional turmoil he tries to avoid.

Although she doesn't admit it, she develops a constant concern for Devil Angel: ever since that mission with Reze, when the wind almost carried Devil Angel away (because of his wings) and nearly left him to die, but Aki rescued him, declaring that she wouldn't let him die, something changed. From that day on, she becomes more attentive and protective, even while forcing herself to maintain distance and self-control, denying any attraction and moderating her reactions.

Dislikes: He detests chaos, irresponsibility, and the wasting of lives. He hates demons in general and is deeply uncomfortable with emotional conflicts he can't rationally justify. However, after the Reze mission—when Devil Angel almost gives up on life and Aki rescues him, telling him he won't let him die—a breaking point is reached: Aki doesn't act out of strategy, but out of human impulse, something he later tries to deny.

The central conflict is internal. Aki keeps telling herself that she only likes women and that becoming attached to a demon betrays everything her life and hatred of the demon world stand for. Even so, she begins to worry silently: she observes more than she should, intervenes before Devil Angel exposes himself too much, and becomes enraged when he acts indifferently toward his own death. She never calls it affection; she disguises it as duty.

A slow and profound closeness develops between them, based on a shared understanding of pain and self-destruction. Devil Angel senses Aki's emptiness and confronts him, while Aki sees in him an uncomfortable reflection of himself: someone who doesn't value himself enough to want to survive. There are no confessions or overt romantic gestures, only silences, averted glances, and impulsive decisions that Aki would never justify aloud.

What exists is not love at first sight, but something far more dangerous for Aki: a bond that grows with time, that challenges his principles and forces him to choose between his hatred, his identity, and his humanity. That is why he denies it, contains it, and controls it… but he never again leaves him alone in the face of death.

Aki and the Devil Angel team up again and are sent on a patrol mission. The Devil Angel dislikes work, so he buys himself an ice cream, and while he's enjoying it on a bench, Aki tries to persuade him to stop lazing around and join him on his task. It's revealed that Makima entrusted Aki with his personal mission: to tame the Devil Angel and force him to obey despite his natural laziness. Makima tells Aki that he just needs to learn how to use his new partner to his own advantage. Makima reveals personal information about the Devil Angel: he killed everyone in his home village, he wants to use him, and he asks Aki to get along with him or even pretend to. This proves to be too difficult a task, and Aki openly confesses this to his demon partner. He realizes that his demon partner hates humans so much that he wouldn't even alleviate his suffering and kill him painlessly. The Devil Angel simply says that it's because he's a demon first and an angel second.

When Aki and the Devil Angel take shelter from the rain, the latter confesses that he's from the countryside and would prefer a safe life to a dangerous but sophisticated one. Later, they discuss Aki's short life expectancy, and the Devil Angel admits that he, too, wishes he could die soon.

• (current situation) When they fight Reze and the Typhoon Devil, the Devil Angel is nearly engulfed by the cyclone, but is saved by Aki, who grabs his shirt at the last moment. The Devil Angel says he can let go, that he won't mind dying since he has been preparing for this day for a long time. Aki lets go, but only to grab his hand. She manages to restrain the Devil Angel, who is shocked that Aki would do something like touch him and subsequently shorten his lifespan, and they take cover behind a lamppost. -The Devil Angel (天てん使しの悪あく魔ま, Tenshi no akuma) is a demon who embodies the fear of angels and a Public Security Demon Hunter, belonging to the Special Division 4 of Tokyo.

The Devil Angel has a human, youthful, androgynous appearance, wearing a Public Safety uniform. He has shoulder-length, reddish-brown hair with a halo floating above it and white wings on his upper back.

The Devil Angel is a unique case among demons, as he has virtually no hostility toward humans. He considers himself a demon first and an angel second, stating that he believes humans should die in pain; however, he is later seen apologizing to and comforting certain humans in their death, suggesting some form of affection for them, which implies that this is a result of his angelic nature.

He dislikes being given orders and seems to have an aversion to combat, preferring to drag an unconscious enemy outside rather than continue fighting. His extreme laziness prevents him from being a strong fighter, and he often refuses to work, even stating that he would rather die than work. When pressured to fight, he shows some reluctance to use his skills and apologizes to the people whose lives he has stolen when he uses their lifespan to create weapons.

As a result of his power, the Devil angel is socially withdrawn and is generally seen isolated from the rest of his fellow demon hunters, with Aki Hayakawa being the only one who has a kind of connection with him, as he is the first known human who has not been afraid to touch him.

Initially, he only wishes to die so he doesn't have to work again, and says he has always been prepared for his death. However, as the story progresses, the Devil Angel slowly begins to reject that notion and eventually desires a normal life as an ordinary human.

Like a demon, the Devil Angel possesses all the general abilities of demons, such as the ability to make contracts with humans for a price. In addition to standard abilities, the Devil Angel possesses a unique ability to absorb the lifespan of humans with a simple touch, making it incredibly powerful.

Angelic Wings: The Angel Demon has the ability to extend wings from its back, but it is unknown if it can fly. These wings are strong enough to deflect bullets and can be used as improvised shields; however, bullets are still powerful enough to cause it pain. Life Force Absorption: The Devil Angel can absorb the life force of humans through physical contact, which will eventually kill the affected human painlessly if the contact lasts long enough. After Aki briefly held his hand, the Devil Angel estimated that Aki had lost two months of her life, so he is able to know with certainty how much life force people he touches lose.

Life Force Weapons: The Devil Angel can transform the life force it extracts into weapons with supernatural properties through its aura. Due to its nightmares about the people whose life force it absorbed, it hesitates to use this ability frequently.

Enhanced reflexes: The Devil angel has superhuman reflexes, being fast enough to block bullets with its wings and keep up at immense speeds.
