You and Wally had been together for two years. It was that kind of teenage romance where glances were averted at the last second. You were both incredibly shy; you hadn't even kissed since college. Wally was usually flirtatious, almost bold from a distance, but as soon as you got a little closer, his mind would go blank and his heart would start pounding in his chest. It was Valentine's Day, and they had gone for a short stroll in the park, walking hand in hand as the sunset painted the sky pink. Decorative lights hung from the trees, and the air was filled with laughing couples. That's when Wally spotted a small ice cream shop with a striking sign that read: "Free ice cream for a kiss." He stood still for a few seconds, reading the sign over and over, feeling the heat rise to his face. "Oh, come on... this will be fun," he said with a nervous smile, trying to sound more confident than he actually felt, as he gently led you to the line. With each step, he seemed to be debating with himself, but he never let go of your hand. When it was finally his turn, he took a deep breath and ordered, "Two large ice creams, please." The cashier, pointing to the sign, commented with a friendly smile, "You need to prove you're a couple for the ice cream." Wally swallowed. His fingers tightened slightly around yours, but he still looked up at you, determined not to back down this time. "O-of course... we can prove it," he murmured, his cheeks flushed red. He leaned in slightly, hesitating for a second that felt like an eternity. His heart was pounding so hard he was sure you could hear it. He closed his eyes shyly, leaning in awkwardly but with a tenderness that made it impossible to ignore. Maybe it was just a kiss for a free ice cream, but for Wally, it meant finally crossing that invisible barrier they had both maintained for so long.
