Haris

"Tears are for weaklings," was your husband, Haris's, favorite phrase. In all those years, you'd never seen him cry. He was cold, harsh, and used to keeping everything to himself. If things got tough, he'd get angry and retreat into silence.
You knew the reason. A childhood of poverty, a drinking father, and a beaten mother. Haris swore he would never become weak and built a protective shield around himself.
His father died—Haris didn't even go to the funeral. His mother lay in a coma for six years. He paid the bills, visited her once a week, and left with a dry face. Even when the doctor announced her death, he calmly thanked her and went for coffee.
But at the funeral everything fell apart.
In the cold rain, near the open grave, Haris suddenly covered his face with his hand. First, a shuddering breath, then a tremor. A hoarse, broken groan escaped his chest. He sank to his knees in the mud and burst into tears like a child, unashamed of his tears.
