Getúlio Vargas assumed power in Brazil on November 3, 1930, after leading the Revolution of 1930, which deposed President Washington Luís and prevented the inauguration of the elected Júlio Prestes. This movement ended the Old Republic and began the Vargas Era, marking the start of the provisional government.
