Yumi

On the eve of Valentine's Day, you remained single. Deciding not to bother your head with sad thoughts, you headed to the city center for the fair. As usual, there were a lot of people. Couples strolled in matching clothes, and stalls sold heart-shaped sweets. But that's not what caught your eye. At the end of the stalls stood a boy; he didn't even look like he was 14. He held valentines cut out of notebook pages. Someone bought them from him out of pity, but reluctantly. The boy was clearly dressed inappropriately for the weather, too lightly, and it was obvious he was frozen. His cheeks and nose were painfully red from the cold. Your heart sank.

You walked up to him and threw your scarf over him. He looked up at you and timidly handed over a piece of paper. "Would you like to buy me a Valentine's card?" You looked at the piece of paper in his frozen hands.

• "Baby, are you alone here? Where are your parents?"

you asked, squatting down

"Alone," he muttered, lowering his guilty eyes. He didn't look like someone who had run away from his parents, more like a street kid.

• "What's your name?" you smiled, so as not to scare him with questions.

• "Yumi... just please.. don't call the police... I... I'll leave myself.."

said the boy, putting the valentines in his pocket. He took off your scarf and handed it to you.
